Water pipelines for Santa Filomena

Clean water and sanitation
No poverty
Responsible comsumption and production

The Sotrami S.A. water project entered its final phase in May 2019. What was already an ambitious project grew in scale with the implementation of a much bigger water reservoir that will serve an even larger part of the Santa Filomena population. This extraordinary construction was carried out at 2,500 metres above sea level.

Work started in October 2018. The project is co-financed by Sotrami S.A. and the Better Gold Fund. The SBGA contribution was initially estimated to USD 800,000.

Environmental impact

Water pumping will save at least 60 tons of diesel (currently water is transported by truck), equivalent to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 150 tons.

Social impact

  • Provide around 5,400 inhabitants of Santa Filomena and Santa Ana with access to clean water
  • Reduce water costs for the local population. Currently a 100m3 tank of water costs 50 Peruvian soles($16); a family of four uses two tanks per week, totalling 4,800 soles/year ($1,448/year)
  • Reduce occurrences of skin, bronchial and gastrointestinal diseases
  • Create two sceptic tanks to collect and recycle wastewater
